Welcome to Choice Support

25th Anniversary

In January 2009, Choice Support will have been working in the learning disability field for 25 years. To mark this milestone a number of events will be taking place over the next few months.

We are delighted to announce the first of these with the publication of "First and Last" which is a remarkable story of the involvement Choice Support has had over the years in the closure of old long stay hospitals. Remarkable in that the first - Darenth Park in Kent ultimately resulted in the formation  of Choice Support and the last: - Orchard Hill in Sutton, Surrey sees Choice Support again playing a key role in the transformation of the lives of those who have lived in this hospital and now are moving to new homes across the community as we have done on successive occasions over the intervening years as these institutions became obsolete.

The book captures an important chapter in the modern social history that was in danger of being forgotten. The oral accounts of those who lived and worked in such hospitals in this period gives a powerful and timely reminder.
